Veolia Water Reconstructs a Problematic Section of the Sewer Network in Vedi

A long-standing sewerage issue affecting residents of the town of Vedi, in Armenia's Ararat Province, is being resolved. For many years, a section of the sewer network originating near Arakel Movsisyan Square had been considered problematic. At this point, the 250 mm diameter sewer main unexpectedly narrowed to a 133 mm steel pipe due to an inadequate original design solution. This abrupt reduction in diameter significantly restricted the flow of wastewater, resulting in recurring blockages and overflows. Over time, this section of the pipeline became severely deteriorated, further aggravating the problem.

To provide a sustainable long-term solution, Veolia Water has launched an emergency rehabilitation project to reconstruct the affected section. As part of the works, 40 linear metres of pipeline are being replaced with new 250 mm pipes, followed by the installation of 60 linear metres of new 400 mm diameter pipeline. Upon completion of the project, the causes of recurring blockages between Arakel Movsisyan Square and the upper part of the town will be eliminated. The capacity of the sewer network will be significantly increased, wastewater will flow smoothly and reliably, and the risk of overflows will be substantially reduced. However, the efficient operation of the sewer system also depends on its proper use.

 The sewer network is designed exclusively for the collection and conveyance of wastewater, and the disposal of inappropriate materials into the system can lead to new blockages.
