In the towns of Abovyan, Byureghavan and Charentsavan of Kotayk Province, Veolia Water has launched sewerage network reconstruction works within the framework of its 2026 Mandatory Capital Works Program. The project includes the following locations:
• In Abovyan: 36 Hanrapetutyan Street, 2, 4 and 6 Nairyan Street, 4 and 6 Kanaker Street, 5 Darani Street, 1 Yeritasardakan Street, 1 Yeghbayrutyan Street, 7 Hanrakacaran Street, 20 Saralanj Street, Building 13 of the 3rd Microdistrict, and Market Street;
• Building 50 on Oghakadzev Street in Byureghavan;
• Buildings 13–20A in the 6th District and Buildings 12 and 5 in the 5th District of Charentsavan.
The AMD 134.9 million project envisages the reconstruction of approximately 4,600 linear meters of sewer network. The existing sewer lines were constructed in the 1970s using ceramic and asbestos pipes. Over the years, these pipelines have significantly deteriorated. In some sections, the pipelines pass beneath buildings, making their operation and maintenance particularly difficult. The problem is further aggravated by tree roots penetrating the ceramic pipes at certain locations, causing recurrent blockages. As a result, unsanitary conditions and residents’ complaints have occurred on a regular basis. Similar works were carried out in Abovyan’s sewerage network under the Mandatory Capital Works Program in 2024. To date, no complaints have been received regarding the sewer lines replaced at six locations. It is expected that the same positive results will be achieved at the addresses included in the current project. However, the long-term uninterrupted operation of the sewerage system also depends greatly on its proper use. Responsible behavior by residents will help maintain the normal functioning of the network, reduce the likelihood of blockages, and ensure the long-term effectiveness of the investments made.
