Around 450 million children live in areas facing high or extremely high water risk, where water resources are close to depletion. One in five children worldwide does not have enough water to meet their daily needs. One in four people around the world (approximately 2.1 billion) still lack access to safe drinking water at home, and 106 million of them are forced to drink untreated surface water from rivers and lakes. International Children's Day is also a reminder of the urgent need to change this situation.
