In the city of Vayk, Vayots Dzor Province, Veolia Jur is rehabilitating the metal water main supplying the city alongside the asphalting works being carried out on the M2 interstate highway. The 500 mm-diameter metal water main, constructed in 1983, had deteriorated over the years and become prone to аварies. Frequent breakdowns required the interstate highway to be excavated repeatedly to carry out repair works. The contractor is now replacing the old pipeline with a new 426 mm-diameter metal water main, 2,300 metres in length. The Vayk Operations Unit is also reconstructing a total of 1.5 km of service connections supplying 13 apartment buildings and individual houses from the new water main.
Vayk, supplied by the Basmaghbyur water source, has a 24-hour water supply. However, sections of the network that have deteriorated over the years have caused water losses and created additional problems within the system. Following the rehabilitation works, Vayk will have a fully reconstructed distribution network, ensuring a more reliable and consistent water supply and preventing approximately 10 litres of water loss per second.
